In a series of tapes produced by the Texas Folklore Society, members focus on all things Texan in speeches and papers delivered at the group's annual meeting. Topics range from folk customs and traditions to grandparenting, Spam, Texas kitsch, horny toads, and more. As with any live production, background sounds are intermittent throughout the presentations, but only add to the warmth and enthusiasm for the state conveyed by speakers. Some speakers are gifted orators, others are less successful, but each offers forth his or her love for the Lone Star state. And each presentation is separated by folk music appropriate to the topic. For a low-budget project, the program is a refreshing break from overproduced packages and offers a rare and entertaining glimpse into life as a Texan.
